The Souls Project: Portraits of Remarkable Women
The Souls Project is an ongoing series of paintings dedicated to extraordinary women and the stories they carry. So far, I have completed three portraits. Each artwork goes beyond likeness and seeks to express the character, talent, and spirit of its subject through meaningful symbols and personal details.
The first portrait features Oyena, a model, singer, and pianist with remarkable artistic ability. Her creativity moves effortlessly between music and visual expression. To reflect her grace and inner strength, I surrounded her with lilies. These flowers bring a sense of elegance and purity to the piece while echoing the quiet confidence she carries. As a result, the portrait feels both powerful and serene.
The Souls
Next is Laura, a model, DJ, and art curator whose work connects people, ideas, and creative communities. Her portrait contains Adinkra symbols, which add layers of meaning and cultural richness. In addition, I included a pomegranate, a symbol often associated with prosperity, abundance, and growth. Together, these elements reflect Laura’s ability to nurture artistic spaces and inspire new connections. The painting carries a strong sense of movement, knowledge, and possibility.
The third portrait celebrates Claire Garvey, a fashion designer known for her distinctive style and creative vision. Her designs have a clear identity, and her artistic voice is unmistakable. For Claire’s portrait, I painted flowers from her own garden around her. This personal touch creates a deeper connection between the artist and the subject. The garden becomes an extension of her creativity, reflecting the care, imagination, and individuality that define her work.
Although these women follow different creative paths, each one brings something unique to the world. Their talents, dedication, and authenticity inspired every brushstroke. The Souls Project is my way of honoring those qualities and creating portraits that speak not only about achievement but also about identity, symbolism, and the stories that shape us.
