Solstice Light: Finding the Glow in Winter’s Quiet Heart

Winter has a way of stealing color. The days shrink. The cold settles in your bones. We need something to push back. That is exactly what Solstice Light: Art in Winter offers, a curated exhibition where artists light a match against the dark.

I have four pieces in the show. Let me walk you through them.

Solstice Over Poolbeg captures that fleeting moment when the sun dips behind the iconic chimneys. The sky ignites. Orange bleeds into pink. The water below catches fire. It is winter refusing to surrender without a fight.

In the Stillness takes a different route. Two swans drift across a calm landscape. Pastel tones dominate, soft pinks, muted lavenders, gentle blues. No wind stirs. No sound breaks through. Just quiet. Just peace. The world holds its breath.

The Swim Between Worlds pulls from a real ritual. Christmas morning at Forty Foot. Brave souls strip down and hit the icy water. I imagined what that shock feels like. The sting. The clarity. The strange, communal joy. You stand between cold and comfort. You choose to jump anyway.

Heart of the Valley brings magic into the frame. A fox moves through a soft winter day. Snow dusts the ground. Light filters through bare branches. And here is the secret. I hid a tiny red door in the scene. Look closely. It is my little Easter egg, a doorway to somewhere else waiting for you to spot it.

What is more, these paintings share a common thread. They hunt for light when the world goes gray. Poolbeg holds onto sunset. Swans float in stillness. Swimmers chase the shock of cold. A fox guards a hidden threshold. Each piece asks the same question. Where do you find your light in the darkest season?

The exhibition runs from 3 December to 25 January. Visit Wednesdays to Fridays, 1pm to 6pm, or weekends from 10am to 6pm. The launch happens Wednesday, 10 December at 7pm, a Human Rights Day celebration. Doors open wide. Everyone belongs here.

Come find the light. Come look for the red door. Let the art warm you from the inside out.
